Recipe for Post # 24 Boiled Chocolate Cake

  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup water or milk (I prefer water)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water

Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl, mixing until well blended.  Add all wet ingredients EXCEPT the boiling water and stir.  I typically do this by hand.  Stir until all lumps disappear.  Add boiling water and stir carefully until well combined.  This will make the batter very thin.  Pour into prepared cake pan(s).  I usually use a 9x13x2 sheet pan.  Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.  Do Not Overbake.  Cool completely and frost.
